Stepping Up Together's Program
The Lansing based Stepping Up Together program provides case management services to teen parents. Case management services involves collaboration with the goal to reduce repeat pregnancies, encourage growth and development, strengthen families, connect communities, identify teens’ parenting needs, and support the health and wellbeing of their child.
Secondary Education and Career Success
Stepping Up Together seeks to meet the long term needs of Teen Parents and their children by supporting teen parents’ access to resources to complete their high school education, to access post-high school training, and to access employment opportunities.
Teen Parent and Child Health
Stepping Up Together facilitates access to health care coverage, medical care providers, public health resources, pregnancy prevention services, WIC, pre/post-natal care, vision, and dental care.
Adult Relationship Support System
Every teen needs supportive adults that they can rely on. Stepping Up Together helps teens connect with adults in their lives for support, and helps facilitate connection with other supportive adults in the community.
Each family has unique needs. As Teen Parents identify areas of need, resources are sought that will help improve family independence and self-sufficiency.
Services are delivered in face to face meetings with teens at home, school, or a community site. The Adolescent Family Life Program- Positive Youth Development (AFLP-PYD) model is used to focus services on the individual teen parents’ strengths, interests, needs, and goals. When a teen parent wants to go to college or get a job, Stepping Up Together can help him/her gain access to and complete their college degree or locate job opportunities. Stepping Up Together can help teen parents who want to improve their own health outcomes as well as the health outcomes of their child. When a teen parent feels unsupported or isolated from their peers, Stepping Up Together works to strengthen family connections and teen parent support systems.Stepping Up Together partners with organizations and agencies in the community to provide classes, trainings, events, activities, and groups based on the interests and needs of teen parents. These opportunities are open to all teen parents.
